Claire Stone is walking to her car after a shift when she becomes the victim in a mugging gone wrong. After she wakes up from an emergency surgery, she learns that the same man that saved her life did it more than once, as he not only carried her to the hospital, but also gave her blood.

During her hospital stay, she calls her father and explains what was going on, but he doesn't believe her, so she cuts contact and quit her job at his restaurant.

After she is discharged, she goes back to her father's house while he's out and gathers what she can fit in her car, and she goes to a convenience store to get something to drink. She gets an orange slushee, and finds a "roommate wanted" ad by the register, so she takes a tab. Little does she know that her new roommate had already changed her life forever.
