Nothing ever happens to Alice. Her life is as unextraordinary as they come, much like her, in general. Just a quiet girl in the corner. Sometimes sarcastic, sometimes severely depressed. Nothing devastating ever happens to her, but nothing extraordinary does, either. She doesn't actually have much to live for, but she sticks around.
She's never moved in the 17 years she's lived in Kennedy, Texas, so she's come to the conclusion that nothing can surprise her about her picture-perfect rich-kid city. Guys are jerks, and girls don't give a crap about other girls; in other words, humanity is shit. When she meets someone who seems to defy the norm, will she gain a new perspective? Or will she come to discover that no matter what, people will always let you down?
Belle. Jesse. Nick.
When friends turn to strangers, and dormant hearts spark to life, what will be left to believe in?
Love? A naive, withering ideal. To rely on others is to be disappointed, so why even bother?
-Let's just stay here forever-
Alice Clarke lives in a dingy flat in London with her Dad until something changes. Her Dad is killed. She is sent to a home for minors who have gone through trauma. She is silent, blaming herself until she meets Fergus, a Scottish boy filled with energy. He teaches Alice how to be young while she can.
But how can Alice stay in such a small town with only Fergus keeping her afloat? She can't possibly let their friendship become more- not when her Dad's just died. Trapped inside her own thoughts, Alice has to face the inevitable truth that she won't be young and with Fergus for long.
Not when she leaves.
