"Violet!" my mother yelled front the bottom of the stairs, "Would you hurry up?!" I charged down the stairs. "I'm coming." This is one of the rare times my mom wasn't drunk and even when she wasn't drunk she was still angry. "I drive myself to school, so why are you rushing me?" I ask her opening the front door. "Because I don't want Mark to get mad about you and you sister still being here," she says pushing me out the front door and shoving my baby sister, Vanessa, into my arms, "hurry up and leave before Mark gets here!"
Mark is my mom's alcoholic boyfriend. He sometimes hits her. It's not like I care though, it's what she deserves. He hits her just like she hits me. She's one of the reasons I left. But I'm getting ahead of myself, I need to start from the beginning.
