After Shadow

When Dolores Bowman threw herself off a 20-story building, she didn’t expect to go to Hell (she didn’t exactly believe in such things). But she did, not the damned place where fire was eternal and the devil made you suffer. Instead, she wound up in the town of Fordale as a boy’s shadow.

Everyday she went where he went, like a marionette with invisible strings attached to him. She didn’t have to eat or sleep or breathe. All she had to do was exist as the boy's shadow until he reached the end of his life.

At least, that’s what Dolores assumed until the boy started talking about a shadow he kept seeing in his dreams. A shadow that claims to be Dolores.
