This statement caused Eden to become ostracized at the Trainers' School, but was one she wouldn't take to heart until four years later.
The real reason behind this statement though - is complicated to explain in words.
Eden's not like other kids... She wasn't "born". She was created in a lab on Cinnabar Island, a secluded island in the Kanto region that is surrounded by water not unlike the Sevii Islands.
Now, four years after she made the statement that shocked people around the world, she's just trying to keep it together with two former Gym Leaders who are attempting to be parents, yet also constantly worry about her.
Finally leaving home for the first time, she begins her journey in the Sinnoh region with a special Eevee, who has an eerily similar past to her own, but forging her own path as both a Trainer and teenager with so much to live up to freaks her out! Maybe she can do it? Only time will tell.

Ash has just lost in the Indigo League, due to his Charizard's disobedience. As he and Pikachu are thinking things over by a lake, they are sure in for a nasty surprise. Betrayal.
