In the distant kingdom of Varnis, where magic weaves through the land and kingdoms rise on the strength of their rulers, lies the Aurelia Academy-a place reserved for the most powerful. Every decade, the academy opens its doors to those with hidden potential, seeking those who have yet to discover their power.

Seraphina Lira, from the forsaken village of Draven's Hollow, is one such person. Draven's Hollow is a place where people struggle to survive, their lives consumed by hardship and despair. Seraphina, however, drifts through life unnoticed, shrouded in oversized clothing, her emotions distant and unexpressive. She feels nothing-neither the sting of pain nor the pull of longing. To her, the world is a colorless void.

Pain, even when others recoil from it, does not affect her. She remains unshaken, untouched by the injuries that others would find unbearable. The world's struggles seem irrelevant, as if she exists outside of them, untouched by the chaos around her.

When the Tagapagpili, the emissaries of Aurelia Academy, arrive in Draven's Hollow to select those worthy of joining their ranks, Seraphina remains indifferent.
