Mature
After the tragic death of his mother and the abandonment of his drug addict father, 15-year-old African American Hakeem is a moody, emotional, troubled, and self-destructive teen living a miserable life in Minnesota. He lives with his terminally ill, grumpy grandpa and, a younger brother with severe autism, and gets constant suspension from school due to fights triggered by his short temper. However, his life changes when he meets a strange, pale teen nicknamed 'Snowflake' by students and is also troubled, isolated and extremely lonely. The two boys form an emotionally close relationship, flying paper airplanes to each other and watching the snow fall together. When the two teens open up more and more to each other and slowly start to feel genuine happiness when they're with each other, their close relationship begins to blossom into something more.

His sister Kelis finds someone in need of a roommate so he moves in with the girl and gives her his middle name, Lucas. He quickly becomes addicted to the girl and once he gets one taste he's done for. He warns her about his past, about his name, but she ignores all the red flags, not realizing exactly how intertwined she is with the people from his past.
