The Doctor has previously lost the Pond's and fallen into a deep depression. He traveled for a bit by himself but chose to stop somewhere. Going to his friends, Madame Vastra, Jenny, and Strax, he tries to find a reason to be happy again. Or at least, that's what his friends are doing.
