Vegas didn't make it alive in the confrontation and as Pete witnesses the love of his life dies in front of him, and can't see his life without him he too scarifies his life in order to be with him,
there dead is never the answer for there separation because no one even god can't separate them from each other as they reborn to complete there incomplete story.

Not every story has an happy ending, what if after everything they went through Pete and Vegas were not an endgame ? Pete was a bodyguard, nobody really cared for him, he was used and well, it was easy to just be a shadow, to never really bond with people because nobody could see his darkness. Until he met Him.
