This rumor started years ago and has not been proven or denied, no one knows if this rumor is just made-up, or if it's the truth. You would think that the hashiras already shut down this rumor, but no, they didn't. Why would they shut down the rumor? When they, themselves, don't even know the truth. Since the rumor has not been proven or denied, they started calling this, supposedly 10th hashira, The Unknown Hashira. The hashira that no one has seen, no one has encountered, and that no one knows of.
