Alexa was a fifteen-year-old homeless girl when she first met Elliot Walker. Known around town as 'The Skateboard Boy', he had a reputation as rude, obnoxious, and mean. However, despite those rumors, he befriended Alexa, bringing her the necessities of everyday life from his own home. Over a period of twelve months they became close friends, sharing with each other things they'd never shared with anyone else.
Then, one day, Elliot unexpectedly tells her that he and his family are moving to Asia. Before vanishing from her life, he leaves her one last gift - his favorite skateboard.
A year later, Alexa makes the brave decision of going after him. After boarding a ship with the last of her savings, she journeys across Asia, the skateboard being her only form of transportation. As she travels, she finds out things that could either destroy her life completely or fix it for good.
Written for the 'Wattpad's Got Talent' contest, 'Skating Towards Lanterns' is a short story about hope, friendship, love, and most of all, finding out who you really are.
