Behind the Mask

I was never one to be afraid of the dark, infact I thrived for the peaceful silence that came with it, being able to stare into a comforting void of darkness.

I lay in my one bedroom apartment, my room light off, my closet door wide open, the only light seeping from under the door that lead to the hallways. 'I can't wait till they turn them off..'

I stare in horror as I watch the lengthy forearm reach out from my closet, bright yet soulless eyes staring right back into him. I can feel it's smile grow as it emerged from the confined closet space. Now I find myself grateful for the light that seeped beneath the door.

"I am Zynef." I heard it mutter "What is your name, human?.." the voice coming out as reassuring rather then sinister as one would expect. "Zane.." I said back breathlessly. "I seemed to have come here by mistake.." it spoke again "Please do keep the lights off.." he sighed.
