The Gods use their powers to control and manipulate humans. But humans have someone to balance out this, to tip the scales.
Long ago, there was a person who was theorized to have the powers to kill gods and use their powers for himself. In an age long ago, he murdered the gods of several pantheons, and disappeared. No one knows why, countless theories have been proposed, but in truth, even the man himself is just that, a theory. There's very little evidence to the fact that he exists, let alone that he is still here.
My name is Cassandra, I'm a detective for the Los Angeles crimes division. There has been a string of murders throughout not only the United States, but throughout the world. These deaths have no possible explanation, but they all are linked within at least a few ways. They have all have been anti-religious, and very prominent figures within those who hate religion as a concept. Their murders though, all seem to be in a supernatural manner, from drowning in otherwise completely calm waters, to lightning striking, to a fire breaking out and only killing one man specifically.
This has created thousands of questions and people have been theorizing that this is an act of their respective god against non-believers, or that there is a group of religious extremists who are orchestrating the murder of these individuals. This has also caused a resurgence in the tales of the Godslayer. People believe if god or gods are interacting with our world, what if the slayer is real? Or if he's been killed?
No one knows. But of course, this is something that needs to be taken care of before more people die. I'm normally extremely skeptical of these things, but I'm a detective before I'm a skeptic. If this man is real, I will find him, or his corpse, and I will see what is going on. For the betterment of humanity.
