She was always told as a child, "That's a man's job". Always told to let her brother handle all the dirty work, all the pain, all the blood. Jake said he would protect her at any cost, no matter the pain he has to cause. That's what Daddy ingrained into his head since before she was born. Never let him forget that keeping her alive and well is his only role, his only reason to live. Jake once told her: "Protecting you is my whole purpose. You are my life." She still thinks about the resentment she saw in his eyes as he said that. She didn't know if he would ever forgive her for being Daddy's little princess.
Daddy always said, "Never bloody that beautiful face I made, never let the darkness dull your eyes." What she never understood, what would always keep her up at night was: What can a man do that she can't? Why is Jake better than her?
