The last place Jenny Parks expects to spend her first summer after college graduation is on the beach with a few distant classmates, all members of Central Carolina University's storied choral music department. Jenny has never felt true belonging in the choirs, even after being invited along by Oliver Mills, the face of the elite choir clique, but decides maybe this trip will change things.

What begins as a slow summer in an old beach house right on the edge of the ocean, owned by the department's recently divorced staff pianist, quickly picks up steam when Jenny and Oliver meet Calliope Hendrickson, a mysterious local who has to be hiding something more than the signature espresso blend she serves at her eclectic boardwalk coffee bar. Romance also ravages the group, raising tensions higher than the afternoon tide.

Bound by the unbreakable ties of music and unexpected friendship, the ragtag chorus of beach house number twenty-two must find a way to survive the summer unsplintered. And Jenny and Oliver, who have been forever searching for themselves, have plenty to uncover beneath the purple Pearl Island sky.

Especially when a very familiar body washes up on the beach.
