After her father's death, Jessie and her mother are left penniless and have to move to the house of Jessie inherits from her grandfather who died in mysterious circumstances. The house is a strange, black villa in the middle of a forest, that grandfather even named "Black Land". Very soon odd things start happening - and grandfather has left Jessie a letter. "In this house lies a great secret, a dangerous secret. I'm afraid you have to find out yourself what it is and act upon it. P.S. Trust the cat". Jessie is drawn, unwillingly, to an ancient Egyptian mystery that threatens all their lives - unless she catches a dangerous ancient Egyptian demon. How are the strange cats prowling the garden connected to everything? And is someone living in their basement? Jessie has to win her fear and walk into the strange world hiding in their basement to save her and her mother's life.
