Amber Sweetwater was always known as being the sweetest girl at Hawkins High School...and it wasn't just because it was in her name.
Everyone loved Amber. Girls wanted to be her friend; boys wanted to date her. She was gorgeous, she wore the best clothes, got the best grades, and had the hottest boyfriend, who also happened to be the quarterback of the football team. And to top it all off, she was just a nice person.
But much to the ignorance of just about everyone, Amber's life is not as perfect as it seems on the outside. Her good looks are only maintained through constant body shaming at the hands of her mother, forced beauty pageant participation, and eating and exercise habits bordering on an eating disorder. Her grades are only maintained as a means of keeping her abusive father at bay, and her so-called perfect boyfriend has impossible expectations that Amber practically kills herself trying to maintain.
Everyone assumes that they know what her life is like...including Eddie 'The Freak' Munson.
So imagine both his and Amber's surprise when a terrible night in the rain forces both of them to realize that there is actually more to them than their classmates like to presume. Imagine the shock and confusion when Amber's perfect life is not so perfect after all, and when Eddie, who is thought to be scary and murderous, is actually sweet and kind.
But the biggest shock of all might just come to both of them when they discover that they actually can be friends...and maybe even something beyond that.

Navigating life isn't as easy as you'd hope but your friends and the so called 'freak' you've fallen for help. Trigger warnings for abuse/child abuse. Drug & alcohol use. Strong language. Sex/sexual acts. Self-harm/talk of suicide. Assault. There are not warnings at the beginnings of chapters. Some themes are rather dark and may be triggering - hence the warnings here. POV story, Y/N format. Slow burn, kinda. Heavy relationship focus leading up to the events in season 4. Not everything will fit with the show but it's a fiction anyway so *shrug* All Stranger Things characters obviously belong to the incredible Duffer Brothers. Y/N Harrington graduated high school at 18 with the intention of moving to the city to peruse a life of music. The plan was always meant to include her boyfriend, Eddie Munson, so she waited and waited for him to graduate after being repeatedly failed. Finding out she was pregnant at 20 and right upon her arrival in Indianapolis was another huge bump in her plans for the future, even more so since she couldn't bring herself to tell the guy who's heart she shattered, making her own brother, Steve, swear to keep her secret too. Fast forward to Christmas 1989 and Y/N Harrington is returning home for the holidays for the first time since her now 3-year-old daughter, Juno, was born. The pair became totally dependent on one another, often blurring the boundaries between parent/child & best friends. Even after Hopper took in young El & joined families with Joyce, (Y/N) remained at the centre of his universe - his whole heart & soul. Hopper held his daughter in high regard, treating her like she was a princess & always wanted what was best for her - even if she didn't agree with him.
