Amber Sweetwater was always known as being the sweetest girl at Hawkins High School...and it wasn't just because it was in her name.

Everyone loved Amber. Girls wanted to be her friend; boys wanted to date her. She was gorgeous, she wore the best clothes, got the best grades, and had the hottest boyfriend, who also happened to be the quarterback of the football team. And to top it all off, she was just a nice person.

But much to the ignorance of just about everyone, Amber's life is not as perfect as it seems on the outside. Her good looks are only maintained through constant body shaming at the hands of her mother, forced beauty pageant participation, and eating and exercise habits bordering on an eating disorder. Her grades are only maintained as a means of keeping her abusive father at bay, and her so-called perfect boyfriend has impossible expectations that Amber practically kills herself trying to maintain.

Everyone assumes that they know what her life is like...including Eddie 'The Freak' Munson.

So imagine both his and Amber's surprise when a terrible night in the rain forces both of them to realize that there is actually more to them than their classmates like to presume. Imagine the shock and confusion when Amber's perfect life is not so perfect after all, and when Eddie, who is thought to be scary and murderous, is actually sweet and kind.

But the biggest shock of all might just come to both of them when they discover that they actually can be friends...and maybe even something beyond that.
