Elijah Mikaelson had lived for a thousand years, he had experienced everything that the world had to offer, but the one thing he wanted more than anything was to settle down to become a father. But he knew that was impossible until Elijah met a Russian wand-wielding witch named Anastasia Ivanov. Instantly, the Original Vampire fell in love with the young witch. She wasn't like anyone he had ever known, and Anastasia loved Elijah unconditionally despite Elijah considering himself a monster.

As the months went by, Elijah and Anastasia's love only grew deeper until finally, he decided to propose to her. They made love that night, but little did Elijah know Anastasia decided to give Elijah the most incredible gift she could give him, a child of his own.

Unfortunately, their happiness did not last forever. Elijah learned that his brother Niklaus was searching for him, and he refused to let his fiancé get caught up in his conflict with his brother. The couple separated so that Elijah could keep the love of his life safe.

Eventually, Elijah and Niklaus reconciled, and Elijah decided it was safe to reunite with his love. But Anastasia had disappeared without a trace. Elijah concluded that she had moved on with her life and had forgotten all about him. A year later, he received the shocking news that he had a two-month-old daughter with Anastasia.
