Nastya Pavlov was forced to flee Ukraine with her family at a young age as the country was ravaged by war. Her family found safety and prosperity in immigrating to the United States, but life came crashing down around them when Nastya was diagnosed with a chronic blood disorder that demanded expensive medical care. Bankrupt and indebted, Nastya's adult life is anything but picturesque. When she finds herself relapsing and unable to afford her medication, she has to choose between life and the self-reliance she'd been taught by America her whole life.
