Derek didn't leave for the airport. Instead, he turned right back around. He came back to Mer. One day, she falls I'll and slips into a coma. 3 months go by, and she finally wakes up! She sees Derek's face and immediately burst into tears. "This whole time I thought you were dead!"
"I'm here, Mer. I didn't leave that day. I just couldn't. I will always be here. I'm not leaving. I promise."
