10,000 years in the future, humanity has long since inhabited a region of space simply known as the "Habitable Zone of the Milky Way," or simply the "Habitable Zone." Many advancements have been made, though many are irrelevant to the billions - or perhaps more - of souls scattered across space. Everything operates under the silent, vague, but present scrutiny of the gods, with thaumaturgic talents dominating many human cultures in some capacity. Churches reign over the post-Altarum territories a century after the Silence. The World, at least as far as many within the Habitable Zone are concerned, is a cold, thoughtless plane of existence. It is within a single vessel, known as the CSS Groundskeeper, do things begin to influence the "Things To Be," as labeled by followers of the pantheon. Within this ship, two individuals will face the beginning of what is to be unimaginable horrors within an unforgiving universe, both with the same goal: do not succumb to the darkness. Trepidation: Act I is the first story in what is to be a much longer novel detailing the story of two individuals in the cold universe. Act I may contain disturbing content for some readers. I'd Like to think I was a good person, before it all began. I didn't cheat on tests, or steal. But throughout my entire life, I was treated if I were a monster. As sad as it may be, we live in a world where the rich are getting richer, and the poor live in worse conditions every day. A world where people have to live behind masks and hide who they truly are, just to be accepted into this corrupted society. A world where everyone primarily thinks of himself and not about what he could to help his brother in need? Dive into my vision, be bold enough to read these chapters, and accept that you may have also been committing these mistakes that corrupt our society and together, let us grow into better versions of ourselves and begin to wonder; what if this had happened to me? How would I have reacted? What can I do to change my community? What if I decide to manifest my dreams every day instead of wishing they would happen? In the distant future of the 28th century, mankind had survived near extinction then made it into the wider galaxy. With almost no other sapient life in the Milky Way to stop humanity's expansion. Space was ripe for the picking. Now mankind and the enigmatic Voidrians formed the U.S.S.A. The (United Solar Systems Alliance). Before Mankind became the dominant force in the Milky Way, Earth was in shambles. Natural resources were nearly depleted, diseases were rampant and most of Earth's population was in poverty. Then by some miracle of discovery or a cruel cosmic joke, in the mid-23rd century when all humanity could do was go out into space to search for a new home, a small planet that was black as the void around it was discovered. The humans who landed on the little planet had nearly lost all hope until they stumbled upon unknown ancient ruins beneath the planet's surface where they discovered untold amounts of bizarre advanced technology. Earth and humanity were saved, and the little planet to thank for their salvation was named Umbra. Alice is a xenoarchaeologist, her passion in life has always been the study of ancient cultures, and now she has the opportunity to study the most ancient one of them all. INCAPABLE - BOOK I: THE FALLEN
ONCE my mom told me that we, as humans, only fear what we do not know and that that is the sole reason for violence. We do not know what is to come of something, so in retaliation we immediately fight it off before we can ever find out; before we can ever see if there is any beauty in it. My mom is gone now. Along with any sanity we as a people have left. The year is 2193, and the world is at war. We, humans, are at war with each other only because of what we are and what we can do. We fear what we do not know, thus all we know is ignorance. The government, our democracy, our people and our world have fallen. Nothing good ever comes from being afraid of the abnormalities of others, especially when those abnormalities are amazing. The truth is, none of us are normal. Everyone's definition of normality is different, making it humanly impossible for anyone to ever accomplish the craved label of "normal". Then again, everything we have grown capable of was once described as humanly impossible. By those standards none of us are human. Not even me.
