Reese has been practically on her own in the above since she was eight years old. Born in a bunker nearly six years after the sky rained a type of hell that should've killed everyone. And it almost did.
The life that lasted through the first years of the new world was violent as resources were scarce and people became more and more desperate. The animals had mutated into monsters and it was difficult to find freshwater or maintain crops.
People fell into small groups, and travelled as the malicious seasons changed and brought new dangers to each region. Running into other groups meant war. Battles for supplies, and trade were unavoidable, no one could stay hidden safely for long.
Those who were fortunate enough, wealthy enough to prepare had bunkers. But eventually even they began to run out of resources and were forced to enter a harsh world they'd never known.
Though many of the most wealthy still remain safe underground, it is common to meet people who formerly resided in bunkers. They missed the harshest times, but things are still unsafe and many didn't survive the new way.
Nearly twenty two years since the day of reckoning, Reese travels with only two companions, Esther and Attis as they try to survive in the new world.
Until one day they find a settlement left in ruins. It was all too familiar...
