Nathan Aswell is an intelligent young mind strapped to the whims of his psychotic father, Frank Aswell. Nothing is ever given to him. It's earned, scrapped for, and often not guaranteed. Food requires extensive mental strain as he slowly succumbs to his anorexia, words of forgiveness are dispensed only after a monumental sacrifice, and love is a scarce resource.

So when Ethan Maxy, a hot new student at Rosewell High School, offers an unusual friendship to the troubled young nerd, Nathan has a difficult time accepting, and growing accustomed to, his love whilst facing the contradicting arguments of his bullies, peers, and, most importantly, his father.
