Fern Michaels is trying to make her way in a life that she isn't living for herself, chasing her parents' dream of becoming a lawyer. Having known nothing but stoic exteriors of people with lives surrounding work ever since she could walk, Fern is familiar with nothing but that, oblivious to the small treasures that come with a life of simplicity. Rather than getting her hands dirty and living for herself, she must repress the dreams of opening a simple business for herself and make her parents happy.

Quentin Woods is a man struggling to get by. His financials limit his life aspirations but not his determination to reach them. Having never been able to afford college, Quentin is limited on his career choices. But Quentin feels free, his optimistic approach to life leaves him feeling unbound to the chains of society as he takes the opportunity to live life to the fullest, not letting anything get in his way.

When Fern and Quentin's worlds are brought together, and Quentin shows Fern of the ways of living life that she'd never experienced, how will Fern be able to continue in her caged world? Alongside this, how will either of the two deal with the growing romance blooming from their unlikely friendship?
