Erwin Smith had some strongly held ideas about his duty and role in the tormented world he was a part of: learn the truth about the titans, uncover the realities beyond the walls, and fight injustice where he sees it. And, of course, avoid love at all costs. But what happens when these views come up against one another? How can he reconcile his own vanity about who he should be with his own instincts about who he is?

When the Commander of the Survey Corps encounters an enchanting but brutalized singer, he must decide if caring for her violates his closely held prohibitions on love or serves his image as a valorous righter of wrongs. Whether as hero or monster, Erwin finds himself assessing his own myopic views of duty to discover if his love is true--or just another facet of his pride.
