22-year-old Lys Serrano doesn't know what turning off is. Working several part-time jobs just to keep her and her family afloat, all she knows is how to constantly be working. After an incident at the hotel she works at, she's given the proposal to work for a member of a notorious security company. He wants to hire her as a live-in maid for his co-worker, and friend, who Lys has already met and decided she loathes. However, she can't turn the opportunity down, seeing as it's the answer to saving her family from the debt that's slowly killing them. Jude hates people. He doesn't know how to talk to them or deal with their emotions or just handle them in general. He prefers his computers, working as a programmer and cyber security specialist for Teixeira Security Systems. After his best friend tricks him into accepting hiring a maid to stay with him full-time, he's beyond annoyed to find out it's the one person from his last investigation that he couldn't stand. However, the longer she stays with him, the more Jude starts to realize that not all people are bad. Especially when this annoying girl helps him break the case wide open on an illegal operation in a major laboratory that could risk thousands of lives.

I didn't come here to make friends. But still- it hit harder than I thought when he said it. "We're not friends." Just like that. Like I was the problem for thinking the silence between us meant anything more than... silence. He barely looked at me when he said it. Didn't flinch. Didn't soften. And I wish I could say I didn't care. I wish I could say I rolled my eyes and walked away. But the truth is- his words stayed. ::: She never asked for a new beginning. He made sure it wouldn't feel like one. After losing everything that once felt like home, Lyrah is forced to move into a house that doesn't belong to her-shared with strangers, full of boxes that carry more silence than belongings. New town. New walls. New rules. What she didn't expect was Jonah McGregor. Detached. Sharp. Unbothered. The kind of guy who makes it clear from day one: "We're not friends." He doesn't want to talk. He doesn't want to listen. He just wants to be left alone. But sometimes the people who keep you furthest away are the ones who see you the clearest. And sometimes the most unexpected person becomes the only one who truly gets it. (Wednesday is new chapter day on 6 pm)
