Being "black" and being ugly were never the same. But when a brain tumour and the consequent radio therapy sessions leave sixteen-year-old Darcy Sullivan with dark skin and a not-so-beautiful and scarred face, she realises that she has become both-dark and ugly.

Tired of being looked down upon by society and her "friends" in the cold and unfamiliar city of San Francisco, the youthful and impulsive Darcy decides to use her only potential, writing, to avenge the wrongs done to her. That's when she embarks on her journey of writing a suicidal e-book, one which she believed would have a catastrophic impact on young minds.

With her book's unfazed popularity within months of its release, Darcy knew that she had been right.

But when she befriends Elrond Collymore, an accident survivor struggling to make ends meet in the most optimistic way possible, she finds her ideas about life changing rapidly, quite as fast as she finds herself falling for this handsome transferee who hopes to become a great astronaut one day.
