We all know that Brucenat was never given a chance because Marvel was not planning long-term and let the Russo brothers destroy their chances. Here's my version, if the pieces fell a little differently. Natasha is sent directly from Fury to follow Bruce Banner, stay close, whatever it takes.
This is Pre- Iron man 2, post The Incredible Hulk
