Rowan Griffith never thought he would move from his home in Seattle, Washington. Specifically, not back to a small town in the middle of nowhere like Hawkins. His parents insisted that a change of pace would be good for their small family of 4. Especially, if it meant getting them away from the lab men and labs all kids grew up scared of.

Karen Wheeler and Mitchell Griffith went to school together when they were young. Though, they lost contact after Mitchell had moved away with his wife after the adoption of their second child. So, when the Griffith family moved back to town Karen was ecstatic to find out her eldest child found a friend within the eldest Griffith.
