In all honesty, Alice Evans is a geek. She's a goody-two-shoes. She finishes her homework the day it's assigned, which should give her a lot of extra time to party – except she's neither interested in nor invited to any parties. Alice already has three other outcast friends, but her secret wish is to be friends with Victoria Jenson, the most popular girl in the grade. When she finally works up the courage to ask Victoria if she can be in her exclusive club, Victoria answers with a challenge – she has to break the heart of Jake Browning, the newest – and hottest – student in school.

The question is, how on earth can a geek break a hot guy's heart? Alice thinks she has neither the beauty, talent nor tactics to break Jake's heart, but decides to give it ago. If she succeeds, she's guaranteed a spot in Victoria's clique. But the catch is, she has to be able to break Jake's heart without being influenced by her own emotions – so she can't sympathise or be friendly with him before letting him down, she's got to do it coolly and quickly. Most importantly, she can't fall in love with him.

Can Alice Evans, a geek and a social outcast, make Jake fall in love with her? Has she got the guts to let him down? Will she make it into Victoria's group? God, if only there was some sort of guidebook to help with this stuff – because Alice has no idea how to break a guy's heart.
