"Things that are special, though temporary, tend to last longer in our memories," Kaito says.
Zoe recalls the Hanami party that they had and everything that has happened since she arrived. She remembers every detail perfectly.
She nods slowly.
"You're right. Perhaps because we know that it may not happen again, so we treasure it," Zoe pauses, and with a sad smile, she adds, "Like this exchange program."
"Like this moment."

Life has been easy for Zoe. She names it, she gets it. Clothes? Done. Shoes? Done. But things that matter like freedom? Nah-uh. So when she sees an opportunity to leave the country and fly to Japan as an exchange student, she instantly grabs it, leaving her best friend and maybe-boyfriend behind. And then on her first day, Kaito, a Filipino-Japanese student, comes into Zoe's life and offers his friendship. He lives in the building next to hers, and despite having opposite personalities, they just click. Small talks turn into deeper conversations, and beneath the enchanting cherry blossom trees lining the streets of Mitaka, Kaito and Zoe discover a bond that transcends any they've experienced before.

LUCAS
I sat next to her on the couch and brushed her hair from her face. She was all sweaty.
" Lucas ..?" She hummed.
" I'm here.."
" I'm sorry, I'm an embarrassment..."
I chuckled. "No you're fine you just drank too much. We were trying to sober you up, then we found you at the bar drinking shots!" It was really a funny sight as I recalled.
" Lucas ?"
Her eyes pried open again and she stared at me.
"Yeah?"
" Will you stay with me tonight?"
SKYLAR
He hugged me again. I could never get enough of his hugs, and still I wanted more. I wanted more than that with him.
It hurt so much knowing that it could never be so.
"Don't be sorry, I'm just happy I got to you in time." Lucas' voice was so gentle, so sweet and sincere. If I didn't pull away from him I would start to cry again.
I held my breath, my hand pressed a little more on his back. As I did this though I felt him tense up from my touch.
"S-sorry," I stammer and attempted to pull away, but he brought me back into his chest.
"Don't." his voice was firm. "Don't...let go."
