Ardia has been under tight governmental control for longer than any living generation can remember, and several generations before that too. Once the government knows you aren't their mindless drone you start running. The east is completely dissolved. There are many different dialects, and there are no safe havens. The west has hollowed the mountains, and the escapees have organized a revolution, but they can't do it without the East. Can they not only get through The Hive and to the east, but unify them into a functional ally?

It's a little story "about a young, dumb sankta who's been dealt a bad hand at life, looking for his place in all this mess. The pointless search for a better future leads him far, far away from home, to a country forever ravaged by war and misery - Kazdel, the promised land where devils roam free and peace feels out of place." To maintain stability, the faction leaders decide to return to the faction system. Because of this, the sixteen-year-olds that chose that year are sent back to their former factions for nine months. Tris falls into a state of depression after the war and her impromptu breakup that occurred at the end of it, and returning back to Abnegation--to the same house as her traitor brother--doesn't help. Tobias remains in Dauntless, but while he isn't exactly despondent, he does feel out of place. He doesn't fit in and cannot go on with normal life after everything that happened. Then, Choosing Day arrives. And history definitely does not repeat itself when Tris goes through the initiation process with her old friends and enemies, her ex-boyfriend, and the new sixteen-year-olds, while citizens of Chicago are mysteriously dying.
