Alma Lefay Peregrine is holding back a secret. A dangerous secret, but that's why she's keeping it. When her brother comes to retrieve her, she's not surprised. She's only cooperating for one reason, the reason why she's one of the most valuable Ymbrynes. Her brothers have her daughter. The daughter she wasn't supposed to have. The daughter that, under the right circumstances, has the power to destroy the Earth. Alma is determined not to let any harm come to her. The bad thing is, her daughter also feels the same way about her mother. And Alma's brothers will stop at nothing to get to where they want to go.

Antonia Somnusson was, like her brother Horace, a peculiar child. She had a similar peculiarity to her brother's; he could see the future, and she could see the past. They'd been separated as children, Antonia had been taken to a different Loop than her brother. But, when he sees that if she doesn't leave she'll be in danger, he begs Miss Peregrine to rescue her. Unfortunately, when they get to her, it's too late; the Loop has been raided, the ymbryne captured and every peculiar murdered. Except for Antonia.
