Drew Benkins, living in a dingy one-bedroom apartment with her nine-year-old brother. Ainslee Hoffmann, working in a cafe to support her great aunt and eight-year-old nephew.
The two have big dreams. Ones that seem unachievable. Or, dreams that require some money to get started; something they lacked, or so they thought.
After running into each other three consecutive days in a row, they decide to allow the young boys to have a playdate. The two have experienced heavy levels of grief that they've yet to resolve, making it harder to open up to each other.
Drew realizes she'll have to open up in order to keep themself, Ainslee, and the young boys safe.

"Awesome!" Ainslee smiles. "When did you figure that out?"
"When you asked me if I had a boyfriend to help me with my brother," I say, smiling and shaking my head.
