three-foot-tall, ten-year-old Saffron wakes up alone in an abandoned city: a flooded, dystopian city overflowing with demonic creatures called dolls,  all trying to kill her at every chance they get.
A mysterious Doll that looks like a human, but is servent to his puppeteer.  His orders? to capture a girl named saffron and take her to his master.
a doctor who only wanted to do what was right, but doing so means leaving behind his boyfriend and all he has ever known and loved.
The city's people are gone without a trace, and so is saffron's memory as she unfurls the secrets behind the city.
As the circumstances of the world's situation become clear, she soon realizes the world isn't as black and white as she once thought it was.
