The Monkees finally hit the big time. They score a recording contract and a national tour, and become a sensation. Even as they sell millions of records and play to packed concert halls, however, they struggle for artistic and creative freedom, control of their image, respect from the music industry and critical acclaim. There are also tensions within the band, and Micky and Gabby quietly work to hold everyone together as the family they have become. How did The Monkees become a group? (The TV Monkees, not the IRL group.) I mean, come on- an LA rock and roller, a British stage actor, a Texan country guitarist, and a Connectictut/Greenwich Village blues artist...
