The McKinnons have always been known as a large family that could rival the Weasleys when it came to immediate family. Marlene McKinnon adored her family, even if her grandparents were more dramatic than Sirius Black and her cousins were worse gossips than vindictive Ravenclaws.
The war was steadily growing more and more fatal as time went on. Death Eaters were no longer only targeting muggles and muggleborns. By 1976 they were targeting anyone who didn't comply with their ideals and morals. That included entire Pureblood families.
