Melody Jones always felt like no one was listening, even when she took extra strength to shake the words from her mouth, nothing changed much. Nothing made her life easy, though not much was wrong. As nervous as she always was, she continues to breathe like something will change, and she is correct.. she meets the man next door. A confident, protective mature adult who is willing to do what it takes to make her laugh, even if it is an awful cheesy joke, and he breathes like there is no tomorrow. He was the man she has always dreamed of, he was the best friend she never had.. but little does she know this man has a lot more to tell then what he's saying..and Melody always wondered who wrote the book on love, and she was beginning to feel she did, and just as it seemed great, she wondered who wrote the book on Goodbyes, and she is thinking he did.

Drace Heinrich has never been a patient person. She's broody and quiet, and she never quite learned how to control her temper. Her older sister, Joan, on the other hand, is bright, bubbly, and well-liked by everyone she knows. The summer before Joan leaves for college is the worst and best summer of Drace's life. She finally feels like she fits in with her friends, and her crush, Michael Murphy, finally starts paying attention to her. But when her sister starts to act out and another boy walks into her life, Drace's life starts falling down around her. --- The window wasn't wide enough to fit the width of her shoulders, so she stuck her head out, then pivoted her body to allow for her shoulders. After that it was pretty simple, almost like doing a pull-up at the gym, she simply grabbed onto the top of the window for support and pulled the rest of her body through, then dropped to the ground as stealthy as a cat. Drace pulled the window closed as best as she could from outside, leaving it open just a hair so she could climb back in. She was feeling pretty proud of herself right up until she heard someone behind her say, "Wow. Well done." She turned around to find Michael leaning against the side of the garage. He was a good twenty feet from where she stood, and if he hadn't said anything, she was sure she would have missed him. He was wearing all black, with a leather jacket and a beanie. And a pair of sunglasses rested on his nose. In the middle of the night. Drace had suspected before, but now she knew for sure; Michael Murphy was the coolest person in the world.
