Gon had grown up on a remote island without many people his age. Most of the people on the island were older and had always told him stories, often regarding astronomy in some way. Though, out of all of the stories told to him-- his favorite by far had to be the story of the "Pale Moon Boy."
After becoming obsessed with the story, Gon began to study the stars and, soon enough, he had decided he would find the Moon Boy himself. No matter what anyone told him.
