Isak has always been afraid to sleep. In the past, he's never known if he's going to wake in his own bed or somewhere strange that he's never been. He never knows how much time has passed. Months can pass in hours. The people around Isak believe it's all in his head, that what he claims isn't possible, that he just disappears. He insists he's pulled across time and the world as he dreams, but this time it's different. Unclear if he's in the past or a just a different world, he waits to go home, if he can figure out where home is.

Charzaphir Simnaril is a warrior and weapon used by his brother to keep the local populace cowed. When he comes across Isak, he dismisses him as a spy and sends him to the dungeons thinking that he's done with him. However, when his brother forces him to handle a work detail, Charzaphir discovers Isak is part of it. Isak, who can't hold a sword and acts as though he can't understand the language.
