At the remarkable age of 13, some of the young citizens of Darzenopia become bonded. The bonded are most often killed, very often banished.
Ember loves her family, and she would do anything for them, but when she gets bonded to a dragon, she is kicked out, and is on the run.
Lexin just wanted to be the best heir to the throne he could be, but when he becomes bonded to a phoenix, he finds himself lying for the very first time.
Marie is abused by her parents, and her older brother left to join the army. When she becomes bonded to a winged wolf, she becomes a prisoner, trying to find a way to escape before she is executed at the summer solstice.
