It's 1980 Eddie Munson is going to be a freshman at Hawkins High School. Not being the most popular in middle school due to having a rock band named Corroded Coffin and being into fantasy game Dugeons and Dragons he was labled as the freak. He's never had a place in his home town of Hawkins Indiana his only happy place is performig with his band and playing D&D. Most people think he's your typical metal head bad boy,what they don't know is he has a heart of gold and would give anything for the ones he loves. When performing a gig at a bar one night the summer after freshman year  Eddie "the freak" Munson spots a girl named Lillith Blackford. He was mesmerized by the way she was dancing to his music,then he spotted something on her arm from where he was on the stage it looked like a bat tattoo.There was just something about this girl that he knows feels so fimiliar,the truth is Eddie saw himself in her more than he would've liked.
