The Reapers. What if we just said "fuck that" and cut them from the script?

Well, that's my intention here. I'm mixing up Shepard's backstory to the max to try and add on to the gritty side of what falling through the cracks really feels like. Akuze, the Skillian Blitz and the Ruthless origins are all cannon in this personal AU, as well as the Mindoir and Orphan, except instead of being an Orphan on Earth, its Omega. I feel like the space kid is a little too idyllic for what I'm going for. Not to mention I plan on Shepard being a bit on the older side. How long would it take for a disillusioned Commander Shepard to finally cut the red tape and leave the Alliance? Who all will Shepard meet now that the Reapers are out of the picture, not forcing the script in to a funnel? Will she still make friends with our beloved Mass Effect cast? Or will they go completely different routes?

Let's find out.

Back cover In the late twenty-second century Humans have reached the stars, and they are not the first. Ancient technology has literally propelled them into the galaxy, and they find themselves far from alone. Three civilisations, more advanced by millennia, rule vast areas of space by cooperating with each other as the all-powerful Citadel. There are many other, less powerful species; Humanity is forced to join their ranks, low in the pecking order. As they explore and colonise new worlds, the Systems Alliance of Humans encounter the Batarians. Skirmishes ensue, avoiding an all-out war that might draw the attention of the Citadel. On a frontier colony, tragedy strikes time and again. Growing up knowing little else, eager to avenge a mother's death at the hands of Batarians, a youngster's journey begins to "be all they can be". But that may be something other than Human - and the shadow that falls across all of the Systems Alliance may be from within as well as without. This is the story of Sam Tarot, becoming an agent of the Systems Alliance Special Operations - on a mission to defend Humanity against all enemies. --*-- Want to know more? Please comment so I know you're out there. New chapters will be coming regularly (aiming for one a month). I apologise to anyone looking for a story about Shepard or any other "canon" characters from Mass Effect, you won't find that in here. --*-- This novel is now complete, but I do intend to bring more volumes. If you're interested, feel free to comment. Hope you enjoy it.

Becoming Turian

9 parts Complete Mature

"It's been itching at the back of my head for so long now, I need you to tell me exactly what happened. Please Kasumi, " she begged. Kasumi pulled up her omni-tool with a smirk, "Why tell you, when I can show you?" --------- After an accidental bonding, Shepard and Garrus are stuck together. This isn't all that bad, but neither of them know a thing about each other's culture, so Shepard steps up and begins to change that. From religion to customs, she tries her hardest to become turian, while gaining feeling for her special turian in the process.
