Rampion is a normal mid-15th century girl. She's dumb. As in she can't talk. Oh! And she has a special power. She calls it her curse. Her curse is a genetic power, passed on to those with a kind heart and beautiful imagination. Her sister, Rose, and father hate Rampion. Her mother is her only refuge. When her mom dies, Rampion is devastated. The last thing her mother said to her was "Be kind. Hide your magic. I love you." When Rose is raving about a ball, Rampion wants to go to see her kind friend, the guard, but her father refuses. Will Rampion ever be free of her curse or go to the ball? Find out!

For the fae, magic is everything: status, power, wealth, honor. For Vera Reite, a fae born with no magic, it is a shameful reminder that she will never amount to anything.
