I never thought I'd fall for him, and I was sure he wouldn't fall for me. We were polar opposites. On one hand, there was me, Eleanor Phillips. Reserved, sarcastic, and smarter than a person two years senior to myself. On the other hand, there was him. Loud, outspoken, and loved by nearly everyone.
We never really shared genuine conversation. For awhile, we simply couldn't be bothered with each other. Then, around my third year, his fourth, everything changed. That's when my loathing started. How I detested him. To others, he was perfect. Quidditch Captain, a Gryffindor, easy going, and loved by all. To me, he was an idiot. He paraded around the school, wearing a dumb grin on his face. Nothing ever bothered him. That is, except me. My loathing turned into our loathing and that's where our whole story begins. The story of those who were less than friends. The story of those who were not even acquaintances.

"You know I'm not a man of many wise words Chloe Potter." Said the boy, who I have always thought as rather dim "and I don't care who you are, or who you're related to..." "Ugh, where exactly are you going with this?" I rolled my eyes, looking into the amber flames of the fire that set homely and warm light around the room. The way the light danced across the walls made it seem as though the two of us were not alone. "The same way we've been trying to go for about two years" He said "come on, you can't really be that blind can you?" I paused, no idea what an earth he was talking about. I didn't reply to him, I just sat there. Refusing to talk to him, to give into what he was saying. He caught on and continued, as though my response wouldn't have mattered anyway. "You don't see the way he looks at you." I scoffed and tore my eyes away from the fireplace "and how exactly does he look at me, may I ask?" There was a sickening silence falling around the room as he sat in deep thought for a while. He joined me on the sofa and stared into the flames I had found comfort in looking into only seconds before. It was a small while before he spoke again and the words lingered around my head for an even longer time. It may not have even been what he had said, or even whether it was the truth. It was just the simplicity of it that made me want to hear more. "Like you're a wild fire and he's just desperate to burn." ---- *I do not own the Harry Potter series. *All characters and story lines belong to J.K Rowling (Besides Chloe, who is my own character) *this is set in the 4th year.

If there was anyone Eleanor hated most in the world, it was James Potter. So, now she's wondering how the hell she ended up dating him. --- ELEANOR BRIGGET was a force to be reckoned with. Powerful, pretty, and with a personality that could set off firecrackers, everyone she'd ever met could say she had left them with something to be remembered. She was the type of person who you looked for in a crowd; someone who was always surrounded by tons of people, and a girl who got along with just about everyone... Except for one person. James bloody Potter. After an incident on their first train to Hogwarts that spiraled out of control, Eleanor swore that she would hate the boy forever and that sentiment only grew stronger when he started harassing her best friend, Lily Evans, for a date. But, when the start of their sixth-year crescents on the horizon and Lily rejects James for the last time, he goes to Eleanor, desperate and with the craziest plan of his life: fake dating. With a future darkened by war, mysterious, magical entities forcing their way into her dreams, and an arrogant, messy-haired boy whom she is starting to love, Eleanor will have to choose what she truly wants and decide how much she is willing to give up. And James will have to decide which is more important: the girl of his dreams or the girl who he has already fallen for. At long last, this is the story of how two people, who once thought of the other as the scum of the earth, began living for the light they saw in each other, even when that light burned too bright. This is the story of how a woman fell in love with a man forever promised to her best friend. This is a story of a silly, little girl who wanted nothing more than to chase the light. Who wanted nothing more than the one and only James Potter. -------------------------------------------- [prelude to golden] [marauders' era]
