What is Exploratory testing?
In this testing method, the creation of test cases is not developed in advance, but, rather is prepared while the testing process is being carried out. Defects are uncovered by testers based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and learning. The testers can think outside of the box and thus come up with testing tactics that actually work and provide productive results.

The right context to perform exploratory testing:
It is applicable in specific testing scenarios, such as when an application or product needs to be learnt by someone quickly and provide quick feedback. The product quality is reviewed from a user perspective. An early iteration is required in many software cycles as there is a lack of time for teams to structure the tests. In this specific scenario, exploratory testing can prove to be beneficial.
When mission-critical applications are being tested, exploratory testing makes sure that edge cases are not missed, which may in turn lead to crucial quality features. The unit test process can leverage exploratory testing, steps can be documented and that information can be used to test extensively during later sprints
