Dorothy Hopper was only two when her parents divorced and her father moved back to his hometown of Hawkins, Indiana. Dorothy would visit him every year at least once, but often no more than that. They were far from how close a father and daughter should be.

This was until Dorothy showed up on Jim's doorstep, the year she turned twelve. Her mother had met a man and created a new family, and now, Dorothy's house no longer felt like home. So she insisted she move to her father's, where she'd reinvent herself. Because if her mother could do it, so could she.

She began going by Dottie and walked around with a new found confidence. No one in Hawkins knew her, this was her fresh start. But, her first year in Hawkins didn't go how she had intended. It consisted of befriending a magic girl with a shaved head and fighting off alien looking monsters that scared the shit out of the girl.

Now it's time for eighth grade, and the new girl in town adds a whole new level to Dottie's unordiany time in Hawkins.
