On September 1, 1939, Nazi Germany invaded Poland. Within a month, the entire country was under German control. On April 9, 1940, German forces began their advance into Denmark and Norway. Within six hours, the Danish royal family and government surrendered. Two months later, on June 10, the Norwegian royal family fled to Britain, and the Norwegian military surrendered. At the same time, 400,000 soldiers of the British Expeditionary Force were surrounded in Dunkirk, France. Of them, 330,000 were rescued in Operation Dynamo. What would happen to the 70,000 left behind? This is the story of a British soldier abandoned in France.
