Lux is the Commander's daughter. She is surrounded by men in her household, but expected to act under the strict Codes of Women. Women are not allowed to fight. Women are not allowed to kill. They are not allowed to have extended contact with men. In short, their leash is gripped rather tightly. As things progress, Lux finds herself in her father's army of warriors, the Battlegaurd,- without his knowledge. Disguised as a boy and surrounded by brusque, rough men, she must find her place in the Empire and defeat the adversary, but will she survive?
