Then in his eyes I saw my reflection. And in that reflection I saw something. I saw my vampire fangs slowly turing back into my regular teeth. As the author, I would suggest the following. 1. Read "Philosopher's Stone" (this book) till before the chapter titled "THE JOURNEY FROM PLATFORM NINE AND THREE QUARTERS" 2. Skip the rest. It is merely a telling of what you have already read in canon, just from a different perspective. 3. Move to "The Chamber of Secrets" and start with the chapter titled "TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE." All the chapters before that are, once again, events you would already be familiar with. 4. Finish book 2 and move on to book 3. There on after, you can read normally. This isn't compulsory. It is simply, in my opinion, the best way to enjoy the series. Since I understand that some portions of the first two books are not very different from canon and thus, can seen boring.
